Holy Communion with Ashing

Ash Wednesday Clipart Ashes Cross

At this service of Holy Communion we turn our minds to the season of Lent by participating in a penitential rite and receiving the mark of the cross in ash on our foreheads.

This outward sign is a symbolic way of committing ourselves to keep walking the way of the cross. Lent is a season when we are invited to fast, to pray and to give. It is something of a spiritual spring clean, an opportunity to reflect on our own need of God's grace.

After the service there is a simple lunch of soup and bread offered for any who wish to stay.
