Summer Organ Recital followed by Compline

We are delighted to have our popular summer series of organ recitals back again where each week a talented musician will offer a varied programme of organ music:
This is our final week, we welcome Ron Berry (St Luke, Thurnby) to play:
Thema met Variaties Hendrik Andriessen (1892-1981)
Elegy George Thalben-Ball (1896-1987)
Trumpet Tune in G major Paul Fey (b 1998)
After an Old French Air Percy Whitlock (1903-1946)
Chorale prelude on Wir glauben all’ an einen Gott (‘Giant’ Fugue) J.S. Bach (1685-1750)
Cornet Voluntary Starling Goodwin (1711-1774)
Marche Triomphale (Now thank we all our God) Sigfrid Karg-Elert (1877-1933)
Ron Berry has been organist at St Luke’s Church, Thurnby, for over 35 years and he has given regular organ concerts at St Mary's Melton and St Margaret's Leicester as well as in many smaller churches. He is also the accompanist for the Ratcliffe Chorale.
Having graduated from Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge in 1972, Ron became a Geography teacher, working in Wellingborough, Bedford and since 1984 at Leicester Grammar School. He retired from teaching in 2014 but is still involved in running the Old Leicestrians Association on a part-time basis. Ron devotes the rest of his time to music, drama and family... and, of course, to visiting all the places about which he has spent his working life teaching others.
Refreshments are served after the recital and then there is a short service of Compline (Night Prayer) for those who wish to stay at 7pm. FREE to attend but donations are very welcome and help us continue to invest in music making.
