Where is Amadika hiding?

Amadika, which translates to beloved in English, is having an adventure around the church building. Will you be able to see her, as she makes her way on her journey.

It’s Black history month. This years theme is reclaiming the narrative.

Amadika is our African doll, she resembles the sacrifice and suffering that slavery put upon the African people, for the lust of gain during the Transatlantic trade.

Ama2

The Transatlantic trade was the transport of enslaved African people, to the Americas, by European slave traders. The trade was driven by a demand, for cheap labour to work on cotton, sugar and tobacco plantations. The Portuguese were the main driving force for the first 130 years, until, the British became the main carriers after 1651.

Towards the end of the African slave trade, there was approximately 12 million souls attached to the transatlantic trade. In 1807 the African slave trade was bought to an end by the British government.

Ama1

God of Forgiveness,

we are heartily sorry for our wrong doing,

upon your own beloved creations.

In our greed, we hurt and caused pain,

for lust of personal wealth.

The actions were not the actions of love

May we forever remember the contributions,

to the foundations of society

through the unity of love, creation and action.

Amen
