Civic Service

Coat Of Arms of the Mayor of Charnwood

The Annual Civic Service brings together civic and community leaders in a spirit of thanksgiving and commitment to ongoing public service.

This past year, our Rector has been the Mayor's Chaplain, and as such we are pleased to be hosting this event for the Mayor and including within it a conversation with the new Bishop of Loughborough, The Right Revd. Saju Muthalaly.

Revd Wendy will be asking the Bishop to reflect on his first observations of Leicestershire, what British identity means to him and where he sees the potential for faith and civic leaders to work together for the flourishing of all. The conversation will include time for questions from the audience.

Saju was brought up in the Syrian Orthodox Church in Kerala India and in a leprosy hospital in the city of Bangalore, where his mother worked as a nurse. He has a deep desire for the flourishing of all people, particularly the poor and those at the margins of our world.

Refreshments will be served followed by a short Civic Service led by the Mayor’s Chaplain and including music from All Saints Choir.

There will be a retiring collection in aid of the Mayor's Chosen charity Living Without Abuse.
