This sombre service recalls the Last Supper as Jesus gathered with his friends and washed their feet before going out into the night to pray.
During the liturgy the deacon washes the feet of members of the congregation (everyone is welcome to take part but it is not compulsory,) and the service ends in silence with the stripping of the sanctuary and a silent watch before the reserved sacrament.
Incense will be used at this service, a symbol of prayer and of the presence of God.
